The Science Behind Modern Wound Care

Clinical Evidence

Wound care has come a long way from the days of gauze and tape. Decades of research now back the modalities used in Ovena products, bovine collagen, graduated compression, hydrocolloid technology, and hypochlorous acid cleansing.

This is a curated, evolving library of peer-reviewed studies, meta-analyses, and clinical reviews. It exists to educate patients, caregivers, and clinicians on the science of wound healing, not to make claims about any specific Ovena product.

Collagen Dressings & Powder

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and the structural foundation of skin. When applied to a chronic or stalled wound, collagen dressings provide a scaffold for new tissue, help regulate harmful proteases that stall healing, and create a moist wound environment that supports the body's natural repair process.

Compression Therapy

Graduated compression therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for venous insufficiency, venous leg ulcers, and lower-extremity edema. By applying greater pressure at the ankle and progressively less moving up the leg, compression supports the venous return system, reduces swelling, and creates the conditions that allow wounds to heal, and stay healed.

Hydrocolloid Dressings

Hydrocolloid dressings create a moist, protected wound environment by forming a soft gel when in contact with wound exudate. They're commonly used in superficial wounds, stage I and II pressure injuries, and as a secondary dressing in layered wound care protocols.

A Note on This Evidence

The studies linked above evaluate the modalities used in Ovena products, not Ovena products specifically. Clinical outcomes depend on many factors including wound type, patient health, adherence to treatment, and provider expertise. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any wound care regimen.

This library is updated as new research becomes available. If you're a clinician with research to share, or a patient with questions about how these treatments may apply to your care, contact us.
